El & Craig — Villa Toscana, Hunter Valley

Some weddings stay with you long after the last frame is edited. El and Craig’s day at Villa Toscana is one of those.

We want to share their story — not just the beautiful venue, the stunning florals, or that golden Hunter Valley light — but the reason this wedding meant something more to us than most. As Hunter Valley wedding photographers, we’ve captured many beautiful days at Villa Toscana — but none quite like this one.

A Day Wrapped in Love

El and Craig chose Villa Toscana for everything it is: a piece of Tuscany transplanted into the Hunter Valley, where cypress trees line gravel paths, stone urns hold garden after garden, and the rolling vineyard views make you feel like you’re somewhere far from ordinary life. On a cool May morning, with clouds drifting over the distant ranges, it was exactly the right backdrop for two people absolutely made for each other.

El got ready in one of Villa Toscana’s bright, airy rooms — laughing with her girls, lost in a moment of stillness, entirely herself. She wore a breathtaking off-shoulder lace gown with delicate floral appliqué that trailed behind her, and she carried it like she’d been wearing it her whole life.

Craig waited at the end of that gravel path, towering white hydrangeas and old stone columns rising on either side of him. When El appeared, the whole thing felt suspended for a moment — the kind of quiet that only happens when something truly matters.

The ceremony was intimate and warm. The reception that followed glowed with candlelight and rang with laughter, spilling out into the night under Villa Toscana’s arched colonnades laced with climbing vines and soft light. El snuck a taste of the cake the moment it was cut. It was perfect.

Why We Turned These Around in a Week

We don’t usually lead with this kind of detail. However, El’s story deserves to be told honestly.

El’s mum couldn’t be at the wedding. She was at home, fighting stage 4 breast cancer, and the journey wasn’t possible. So El carried her mum with her in every other way she could — in the way she laughed a little harder, hugged a little longer, and held onto Craig like he was steady ground.

That morning, in her dress, El FaceTimed her mum. Her mum got to see her daughter as a bride before the ceremony even started. On the other side of the country, watching through a tiny screen — and when that call ended, El got into the car and went and got married.

We don’t usually say this: we turned the gallery around in five days. Because when we heard El’s story, we understood the urgency. Her mum needed to see the photos.

Her mum got to scroll through every image — every look, every moment she’d missed and been afraid she’d never see. Pure joy. Really happy.

She passed away two weeks after the wedding.

We’ve been doing this for years and we understand what it means to capture a wedding day — but this reminded us, in the most profound way, what photographs actually are. Not just files. Not just a product. They’re the last thing someone holds onto when everything else is slipping away.

We are so grateful El trusted us with her day. We are so grateful her mum got to see it.

To El & Craig

Thank you for letting us be part of something this sacred. Your love for each other — and for your family — showed up in every single frame of your day.

Your mum saw you as a bride. She knew how loved she was, and she knew you were going to be okay.

We hope these photos are yours forever.
